April 16th ’13

The day before she’s laid to rest.

‘Stop all the clocks’, Auden said, well the heartbeat of London will stop tomorrow for the duration of the disgraceful fanfare that is to be her farewell. Is it not enough that the wealthy punish the weak for the mistakes that the key holders of capitalism have made? Would it not have been judicious to let her slip away quietly at a private ceremony attended by those who wanted to be there? Is it necessary for a politician that tore her nation in two be celebrated, especially at a time when the pain of austerity is being meted out on the poor once more by the inheritors of her ideology?  There is a vindictive air to all this.

Ten million pounds

to put her down beneath the ground ?

Forget the bands and gun salutes

stamp on her grave with heavy boots.
